The Historical Reality

Pirates rarely buried plunder. Booty was divided according to crew articles and quickly spent on provisions, alcohol, and women in pirate-friendly havens like Nassau and Port Royal. Captain William Kidd was the lone notable exception, having cached treasure on Gardiner's Island in a desperate bid for political leverage.
